A boy from Cape Town became the first person to receive a prosthetic ear surgery at the Groote Schuur Hospital in South Africa.
15-year-old Tylor baker was born without ears and ear canals and as a result had very poor hearing for most of his life.
The operation cost about N1.5k, sponsored by the
Fuchs Foundation. A large team of different doctors and surgeons
prepared and performed the surgery.
It took surgeons two days to pick the perfect pair of ears for Tylor and the operation to attach them lasted about half an hour.

Tylor said after the operation: “The future looks brighter for me now. At a young age I never thought this would happen.”
He adds: “For
a family like us that have gone through this, parents should never
expect too little from them. People like us have the ability to do
anything we want.”
His father stated: “I can very proudly say that this young man standing here next to me is my hero.”
