Former President Barack Obama and his family are set to visit his childhood home city of Jakarta at the end of their 10-day vacation to Indonesia, where they went whitewater rafting and visited an ancient Buddhist temple.

Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will host Obama on Friday at the Bogor Palace in West Java, a grand Dutch colonial building famous for its 200-acre botanical gardens and the herd of spotted deer that roam the grounds.

Obama was incredibly popular in Indonesia during his presidency, and many here saw him as a symbol of hope and religious tolerance because of his years living in the Muslim country. A statue of the kid still remembered as "Barry" by childhood friends was erected outside the elementary school he attended in Jakarta.

Dutch to send envoy to Libya three years after closing mission

The Netherlands will send a permanent envoy to war-ravaged Libya, three years after closing its embassy in Tripoli for security reasons, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

But ministry spokesman Chris Bakker said it was “too early to re-open the embassy in the Libyan capital”.

The decision was taken after a meeting between Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders and his Libyan counterpart as well as the Libyan prime minister.

“This is an important first step to being represented once again in Tripoli at the diplomatic level,” Koenders said, adding that a permanent diplomat was needed to follow the “complex situation” in the North African country.

The Dutch government had closed its mission in Tripoli in July 2014.

At United Nation, United State accuses Iran of flouting resolution

The United States on Thursday accused Iran of “repeatedly and deliberately” violating a UN resolution that endorsed the landmark 2015 nuclear deal and said the Security Council had failed to respond.

US Ambassador Nikki Haley pointed to “repeated ballistic missile launches, proven arms smuggling”, purchases of missile technology and a violations of a travel ban on Iranian military officials as proof that Iran was not upholding its international obligations.

“The Security Council has failed to take even minimal steps to respond to these violations,” US Ambassador Nikki Haley told a council meeting called to discuss Iran.

“These measures are here for a reason. This council should be here to enforce them,” she said.

The Security Council adopted resolution 2231 two years ago to endorse the nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers, lifting economic sanctions in exchange for curbs to Tehran’s nuclear program.

The resolution called on Iran not to test ballistic missiles capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and an arms embargo remained in place.

In a report to the council, UN political affairs chief Jeffrey Feltman said the council was divided over whether Iran’s launch of a medium-range missile in January 2017 was a violation.

Following the seizure of an arms shipment by France in the Indian Ocean in March 2016, UN experts examined the weapons seized and confirmed that they were “of Iranian origin and were shipped from Iran,” Feltman said.

Haley recalled that the US administration is reviewing the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which President Donald Trump has described as “disastrous.”

Feltman praised the deal as a “diplomatic achievement” while European Union Ambassador Joao Vale de Almeida said it was a “pillar of the international non-proliferation agenda” that “needs to be preserved and fully implemented.”

A Man jailed for three years for cultivated £35,000 worth of cannabis

United Kingdom Police reported, 31 year old named Noah Fessazion, who cultivated £35,000 worth of cannabis at a residential address in Thamesmead, London has been jailed for three years.

Noah was found guilty of production of cannabis following a trial. Back in February 2016, detectives executed a search warrant at Manning Court in Thamesmead and discovered a cannabis factory with a street value of £35,000.   

The factory was capable of producing over £100,000 worth of cannabis per year. Enquiries led police to Fessazion and he was arrested following an investigation for producing cannabis. 

Detective Constable Craig from the Greenwich Gangs Unit, said:

"I am very pleased with the conviction. The supply of all drugs within the borough drives all types of crime, whether that be anti-social behaviour or violent crime, we do not stop daily in protecting the residents of Greenwich from this activity."

Five (5) suicide bombers attack Lebanese army during raids

Five suicide bombers attacked Lebanese soldiers as they raided two Syrian refugee camps in the Arsal area at the border with Syria on Friday and a sixth militant threw a hand grenade at a patrol, the army said. Seven soldiers were wounded.

A Lebanese army statement said one suicide bomber had detonated his explosive laden belt in front of an army patrol during a manhunt for suspected militants in a refugee camp in the northeastern border town.

The army said four other suicide bombers blew themselves up without causing any injuries among soldiers, while another militant threw a grenade at a patrol, injuring four soldiers.

During the raids an explosive device blew up while four other explosive devices that were being prepared by the militants were defused.

The Lebanese army has in recent months stepped up raids in the makeshift camps built on the edge of the town where tens of thousands of impoverished Syrian refugees who had fled violence in their country in recent years live in squalid conditions.

The camps around the town have long been a haven for militants coming from Syria who have clashed with Lebanese forces conducting security raids searching for suspects hiding among the refugees.

EZEKIEL 20:1-9

Key Verse:

"Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to enquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you" (Ezekiel 20:3).

Matthew Henry, a nonconformist English minister and Bible commentator, once said, "No attribute of God is more dreadful to sinners than His holiness." That is why our text reveals that when the Israelites wanted to inquire certain issues from God, He outrightly refused to listen to them. They had completely entangled themselves in sin and deserved no communication with God. Sometimes, when God keeps silent when we have prayed, there could be a reason. It is required of us, therefore, to do a thorough soul-searching examination to find out the cause. The Israelites had been in captivity. When they came to Ezekiel, they probably wanted to find out whether God would use the Egyptians to rescue them or they would soon return to their own country. But God ignored them, asking Ezekiel to inform them that there was no basis for it. As against their inquiry, God instructed Ezekiel to tell them about their depravity, which had put them at contrary purposes to Him. Today, quite a lot of people have forgotten God. They hardly count God’s blessings upon their lives. Instead, they mesmerise themselves with unprofitable things, getting entangled with sins. They forget that sin brings negative things. If it were positive, God would not have been concerned about it and there would not have been any need for repentance. But because of its injurious nature and Satan being at the crux of it, God commanded that we should come out of sin. Sin could destroy your innocence, tarnish your integrity, destroy your deeds and will, put you into slavery, produce sickness, pain and degeneracy in your life and put you to death. That is why you must come out of it today. Delay may be dangerous.

President Donald Trump’s priority with regard to Qatar crisis is to stop Doha from funding terrorist groups, US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has said.

Speaking on Wednesday at the hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Haley said that, “the crisis is a good opportunity to urge Doha to stop supporting those groups and Hamas and to inform Doha to stop funding groups that US does not want to see in the region.”

She added that Washington has a military base in Doha, but Trump is paying more attention on eliminating ISIS and terrorism.

Replying to a question whether Muslim Brotherhood was part of the Middle East solution, Haley said: “I think that the subject has not been discussed with the US administration. I am not a fan of the Muslim Brotherhood, so I think they tend to be part of the problem of the region rather the solution.”

PSALM 119:121-128

Faron Young, a famous American singer and songwriter, who was married for over 32 years, plunged himself into alcoholism. This badly affected his life and he got separated from his wife. The court ordered him to pay her a lifetime alimony of $l,000 every month. After years of loneliness, heartache and pain coupled with prostate cancer, Young shot himself. That was where he got it wrong, forgetting to surrender his challenges to Christ. The text, the prayer of the Psalmist, exposes his frailty, weakness and helplessness. It was a heartfelt prayer from someone, who was not pretentious but was in pain and suffering. He cried out his mind to God to get involved in his situation. He knew God abhorred sin and with it, no one would have access to Him. Therefore, he maintained a righteous life. He cried for God’s grace and mercy, being sure that God was his sole hope and unfailing resource of life. He actually needed to be strengthened and so, he asked God for His deliverance. He pointed out that he was God’s servant, who obeyed Him at all times. He asked for understanding to know Him better through His Word. Sometimes, we could be in such a devastating and helpless situation, where we could cry day and night, seeking God’s deliverance and safety. We could feel vulnerable, often seized with fear that our enemies, who desire to hurt us, might have their way. When you are so hard pressed with challenges, call upon God and you will be sure your appeal to Him will not be in vain. He will be delighted when you take Him at His word. So, come directly to Him and tell Him how you wholeheartedly depend upon Him. You might be an open target of the enemies, but God is there to protect you.

Thought for the day: He who wholly focuses on God can never be trapped in the minefield of life.

UAE envoy to Russia threatens ‘goodbye Qatar’ sanctions

UAE ambassador to Russia Omar Ghobash has threatened further sanctions against Qatar amid a deepening rift among Gulf States.

In an interview with the Guardian published on Wednesday, Ghobash said that a list of 13 demands conveyed to Qatar by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt could be followed with further economic pressures if Doha does not comply.

The list of demands included the shutting down Al Jazeera, cutting diplomatic ties with Iran, immediately halting the establishing of a Turkish military base in Qatar and ending any military cooperation with the NATO member.

Qatar must also refuse to further naturalize citizens from the four countries – especially in Bahrain’s case – and expel those currently in Doha, in what the countries describe as an effort to keep Qatar from meddling in their internal affairs.

“If Qatar was not willing to accept the demands, it is a case of ‘Goodbye Qatar’ we do not need you in our tent anymore,” Ghobash said.

“Their position today anyway is inconsistent with being members of the GCC because it is a common security and defense organization. There are certain economic sanctions that we can take which are being considered right now.

“One possibility would be to impose conditions on our own trading partners and say you want to work with us then you have got to make a commercial choice.

Ghobash said that the list of demands also point to the fact that the UAE is “imposing the same standards on ourselves.”

He added: “So if we are to ask for the monitoring of Qatari financial transactions and its funding of terrorism then we would be open to the same idea. This is not bullying. This is demanding a higher standard throughout the whole region.

“We have nothing to hide ourselves so we are willing to meet the same standards we are asking Qatar. The west has traditionally complained of a lack of financial transparency in the region, and there must be a huge amount that the west can do to monitor what is happening.”

He also warned: “We can escalate with more information, because we are not going to escalate militarily. That is not the way we are looking at things.”

On the topic of Al Jazeera, Ghobash said: “We do not claim to have press freedom. We do not promote the idea of press freedom. What we talk about is responsibility in speech.

“Freedom of speech has different constraints in different places. Speech in our part of the world has a particular context, and that context can go from peaceful to violent in no time simply because of words that are spoken.”

Ghobash also warned Qatar about “choosing the Iranian route” and deepening ties with Tehran.

“We are asking Qatar to make a choice and we realize they may choose to take the route to Iran, and we are willing to accept the consequences of that.”

Reward Of False Prophecy

JEREMIAH 28:10-17

Key Verse:

"Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD" (Jeremiah 28:16).

Even though afflictions come from the devil, God, sometimes, allows them as a form of chastisement against His people for their wrongdoing. This was exactly the situation of the Israelites, as the text depicted, when they involved themselves in sin. Jeremiah, by the Spirit of the Lord, wore a yoke, which symbolised the Jews and other neighbouring nations’ subjection to the king of Babylon. It was not that Nebuchadnezzar was righteous, but submission to him was a form of punishment, which could prevent the extreme evil that would otherwise befall them. Hananiah, a false prophet, who stood against Jeremiah’s prophecy and made the people believe a lie, took the yoke from off Jeremiah’s neck and broke it. Jeremiah, as against contending with Hananiah, quietly and patiently went his way. But shortly after he left, God’s message came to him against Hananiah and the people. For the people, God had taken away the yokes of wood from them and put the yokes of iron upon their necks. So, they would serve Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. For Hananiah, he would die that year. In less than two months, Hananiah truly died. We should, therefore, be mindful of the fact that a lie is the breaking of God’s commands and its price is very high. If sin is allowed to go unchecked, it will have a crippling effect and it may ruin the person eternally because no one commits a sin and goes unpunished if he does not repent. It prevented Moses from reaching the Promised Land and Samson lost his eyesight and life, among others. Therefore, do everything possible to avoid sin.

The 28-year-old, cardiff City defender Bruno Ecuele Manga signs two-year contract extension

Gabon defender Bruno Ecuele Manga has signed a new two-year contract at Cardiff City.

The 28-year-old, whose contract at the Championship club was set to expire this summer, has now committed to the Cardiff City Stadium until 2019.

Ecuele Manga joined the Bluebirds from French side Lorient for £5m in 2014 and has since featured 77 times, scoring five goals.

"I am really pleased to be continuing my adventure with this magnificent club," Ecuele Manga told the Cardiff website. "I would like to thank the manager and the board for having trust in me. Now it's time to work towards getting back to where we all want to be."

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock added: "It's been quite a long process to get this one done, but what's been clear to me throughout it all is that Bruno wants to play for this club, which is the most important thing. I'm absolutely delighted."

Ecuele Manga was named as Cardiff's player of the season during the 2014-15 campaign.

Kuwait will deny entry of figures on Qatar-linked terror list

Kuwait has said it will not allow the entry of figures who are currently named on a Qatar-linked terrorism blacklist by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt, local media reported on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and Bahrain have blacklisted 59 individuals and 12 entities for their support to terrorism whether by supplying money or arms.

In a previous joint statement by the four countries, it said that the list is linked to Qatar, highlighting the latter country’s two-faced policy, which appears to be fighting terrorism on one hand while funneling and supporting terrorist organizations on another.

The Olukoya Boys were well beaten by Sai Masu Gida on matchday 25, and the defender is hoping to erase that loss by collecting three points against the Owena Whales.

MFM FC's Monsuru Bashiru urges his teammates to return to winning ways when they face Sunshine Stars on Wednesday.

Why has Philippine President Duterte disappeared from the public eye?

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is alive and well and experiencing no health problems, the government said on Tuesday, amid concerns about his disappearance from the public eye for unusually long periods this month.

Known for a busy schedule and lengthy speeches often several times a day, the 72-year-old Duterte’s low profile has fueled rumors he is in declining health and that the government is trying to keep that under wraps. He was last seen in public a week ago.

What has created most intrigue is Duterte’s absence during what is the biggest crisis of his year-old presidency, as the military battles for a sixth week to defeat ISIS-linked rebels currently occupying Marawi City on his home island of Mindanao.

“First and foremost, he is alive and well, he is very well, he’s just busy doing what he needs to do,” presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella told reporters.

“As you’ve seen he’s been very much in the public eye but being out of the public eye, that is when he is able to do office work, he signs papers, he reads, he consults, he’s actually very busy.

“The thing that is very important to note is that he is on top of every situation, he is aware of what’s happening, he’s updated regularly, he reads, he listens and he’s quite aware. This is just his working style.”

The maverick leader was due to meet some cabinet members on Tuesday and attend an event at the Presidential Palace in Manila to mark the end of the Eid al-Fitr Islamic holiday.

Duterte’s absences during June represent the longest periods he has been out of the spotlight. He was last seen on June 20 in two cities close to the violence-torn Marawi, visiting soldiers and evacuees.

That followed a three-day absence after a speech in which he said his health was “immaterial”, amid raised eyebrows about his failure to appear in public for Independence Day on June 12.

Duterte’s known ailments include back problems, migraines due to nerve damage after a motorcycle accident and Barrett’s esophagus, which impacts his throat. He also suffers from Buerger’s disease, caused by his heavy smoking in younger days, which can cause blockages in the blood vessels.

His office has recently said he has been experiencing fatigue. His closest aide, Christopher “Bong” Go, on June 15 posted images on social media of Duterte signing documents and standing in front of a television showing a news bulletin, adding further fuel to rumors that something was wrong

Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said Filipinos should not be concerned.

“The public should not worry,” he told DZMM radio. “Our president is healthy.”

Former NFL player, Ahmed Green has been arrested for allegedly punching his 15-year-old daughter over 'dirty dishes.'

Ahman Green, Former NFL player, who's the all-time leading rusher for the Green Bay Packers, has been arrested for allegedly punching his 15-year-old daughter over 'dirty dishes.'

He was arrested Monday morning after cops responded to his Wisconsin home at 11:26 AMfollowing a 911 call from a neighbor.

 

According to Police report, Ahman's daughter said they had been arguing all day long about chores. She said that she didn't want to wash the dishes and tension mounted between her and Ahman.

In the report, she claimed the ex-NFL star grabbed her, threw her to the ground and up against the kitchen cabinets before punching her in the face.

Upon arriving at the scene, police officers noticed her left eye was "swollen, slightly black and blue, and had two minor scratches." 

Narrating a totally different version of the story, Ahman admits they were arguing, and things got physical. But insists he did not punch her. Instead, he says he "slapped her upside the head" and her glasses caused the damage to her face.

In his defense, he says he was physically disciplining his child and didn't abuse her.

Ahman Green has since been arrested and charged with physical abuse of a child-intentionally causing bodily harm (a felony) and disorderly conduct (a misdemeanor). He faces six years in jail and/or a $10,000 fine for the physical abuse charge. 

According to ESPN, he is scheduled to appear in court on July 11.

Green who's the Packers’ all-time leading rusher, scored 54 rushing touchdowns, added 14 receiving scores to go along with 2,726 yards on 350 catches and in 2014, he was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame.

Barcelona give Hector Bellerin just 10 days to decide his Arsenal future

Barcelona have warned Hector Bellerin they will move on to alternative targets unless significant progress is made in negotiations with Arsenal within the next 10 days.

The Gunners right back has been linked with a return to his former club for much of the summer and Mundo Deportivo claim the next week and a half will be definitive in whether or not the deal goes through.

Bellerin is said to be desperate to seal a return to the Nou Camp, where he originally came to Arsenal's attention at the La Masia academy. Equally, Barcelona believe he would be the perfect long-term replacement for Dani Alves, who left last summer.

There are, however, significant obstacles to the deal, not least the fact that the Spanish defender is concentrating on the European Under 21 Championship in Poland.

Arsenal would also be very reluctant to let the player leave, especially considering Arsene Wenger already looks set to lose several key men including Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez this summer.

The 22-year-old signed a contract until 2023 in November, leaving Arsenal under little or no pressure to sell. As a result, Mundo Deportivo recognise that Bellerin will have to make his intentions clear if he wants to leave the Emirates.

But Bellerin has appeared reluctant to do something so drastic thus far. He continues to owe a debt of gratitude to Wenger, who gave him a chance in the first team when other managers may have not.

It also appears Barcelona have courted the help of their midfielder Denis Suarez, who is currently playing with Bellerin in Poland. Speaking to local radio, he admitted he would love to see the Arsenal star return to Catalonia. 

'The people want the best at Barcelona and I hope Bellerin can come,' Suarez told Radio Marca. 'The players of a top level are welcome.'

Apple CEO Tim Cook on Sunday highlighted the economic impact the company is having on India in a meeting with its prime minister as the iPhone maker seeks deeper access to the world’s third-largest smartphone market behind the United States and China.

Cook met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a business summit in Washington at a time when Apple Inc is targeting the nascent Indian market as a revenue source after its sales in China slipped.

Apple has asked Indian government officials for a range of tax and policy changes to help build out its iPhone assembly work in the country. It is seeking permission to open its own retail stores in India where it currently sells iPhones through resellers.

In his meeting with Modi, Cook disclosed that Apple expected its Indian operations to be run completely from renewable energy within the next six months, according to a person familiar with the discussion.

Cook reiterated that Apple had generated 740,000 jobs in India through its so-called “app economy” and Indian developers had created nearly 100,000 apps for the App Store, the person said.

Modi talked with Cook and other US corporate leaders ahead of a meeting with President Donald Trump on Monday. Apple, working with contract manufacturer Winstron, began assembling the iPhone SE in Bengaluru last month. Indian authorities have offered Apple tax concessions for the work with the requirement that more local components be used over time. The company is looking to India after sales in the greater China region, once a major factor in Apple’s rise, fell 14 percent year over year to $10.7 billion in the most recent quarter.

Apple has not disclosed how much revenue it generates in India but said that sales grew by “strong double digits” there in the most recent quarter.

“We have a ton of energy going into the country on a number of fronts,” Cook told analysts about Apple’s efforts in India during the company’s most recent earnings call. “We believe, particularly now that the 4G infrastructure is going in the country and it’s continuing to be expanded, there is a huge opportunity for Apple there.”

Connecticut woman commits killed herself after trying to strangle her 8-year-old daughter

On Saturday morning, an 8-year-old Connecticut girl who had regained consciousness after a strangulation attempt by her mother discovered her mom’s dead body in another room in the home, Fairfield police tell PEOPLE.

Detectives believe that Ivanna Krekhtyak, 36, killed herself believing she had just killed her daughter.

Police say that after finding her mother dead, the young girl ran to a home of a neighbor, who called police, who then found Krekhtyak’s body.

“All of the evidence at the scene is consistent with that,” Fairfield Police Lt. Robert Kalamaras says. “It’s such a shame. This was a tragic call.”

The girl, Kalamaras confirms, had strangulation marks on her neck as well as redness on her face as a result of the attack, which occurred the previous evening.

Kalamaras says that the young girl is “in stable condition” at a nearby hospital, where she continues to receive treatment for her injuries.

The Connecticut Post reports that Krekhtyak’s husband, Vasyl Krekhtyak, died in 2015 at the age of 38 after killing himself “by neck compression,” according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

United State federal judge halts deportation of Iraqis nationwide

A federal judge halted late on Monday the deportation of all Iraqi nationals detained during immigration sweeps across the United States this month until at least July 10, expanding a stay he imposed last week.

The stay had initially only protected 114 detainees from the Detroit area.

US District Judge Mark Goldsmith sided with lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union who filed an amended complaint on Saturday seeking to prevent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from deporting Iraqis from anywhere in the United States.

The ACLU argued those being deported could face persecution, torture, or death because many were Chaldean Catholics, Sunni Muslims, or Iraqi Kurds and that the groups were recognized as targets of ill-treatment in Iraq.

Goldsmith agreed with the ACLU on the grave consequences deportees may face, writing in his seven-page opinion and order that: “Such harm far outweighs any interest the Government may have in proceeding with the removals immediately.”

On Thursday, Goldsmith ordered a stay in the Michigan Iraqis’ deportation for at least two weeks while he decided whether he had jurisdiction over the merits of deporting immigrants who could face physical danger in their countries of origin.

He expanded his stay on Monday to the broader class of Iraqi nationals nationwide, saying it applies to the removal of all Iraqi nationals in the United States with final orders of removal who have been or will be detained by ICE.

There are 1,444 Iraqi nationals who have final deportation orders against them, although only 199 of them were detained as part of a nationwide sweep by immigration authorities, federal prosecutors said in court on Monday.

Those detained had convictions for serious crimes, including rape and kidnapping, ICE said.

Goldsmith also said his stays were designed to give detainees time to find legal representation to appeal against their deportation orders, and to give him time to weigh the question of his jurisdiction.

Daniel Lemisch, acting US Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, called the opinion “highly extraordinary.”

“But it’s a very extraordinary circumstance because of the on-the-ground situation in Iraq,” Lemisch said by phone, referring to the danger faced by possible deportees.

ACLU attorney Lee Gelernt praised the ruling for saying that “the lives of these individuals should not depend on what part of the United States they reside and whether they could find a lawyer to file a federal court action.”

Goldsmith’s order came the same day the US Supreme Court handed a victory to President Donald Trump by reviving parts of a travel ban on people from six Muslim-majority countries.

The roundup in Michigan followed Iraq’s agreement to accept deportees as part of a deal that removed the country from Trump’s revised temporary travel ban.

Some of those affected came to the United States as children and committed their crimes decades ago, but they had been allowed to stay because Iraq previously declined to issue travel documents for them.

That changed after the two governments came to the agreement in March.
