Pregnant women carried on bamboo yo hospital

Pregnant women and critically ill patients in Asinesi, a remote farming community in the Yilo Krobo district of the Eastern region have no choice than to be carried on a bamboo stretcher and travel long distance just to board a vehicle to hospital due to the poor road network and the absence of a health facility in the area .

The road leading to the community is not motorable, preventing motorists from using the road. The only means of transport in the village is ‘Okada’ which is not even common as most Okada riders are reluctant to operate on the deplorable road.

According to residents, the situation has led to the death of many residents whose lives could have been saved if a health centre was available in the community.

The community, with a population of about 1000 depend solely on traditional medicine to cure critically ill patients. The only traditional birth attendant who delivers pregnant women has been bedridden creating despondency among pregnant women.

Speaking to Starr News’ Eastern Regional Correspondent Kojo Ansah who visited the Community, Isaac Amanor, Assembly Member for the area said the situation is very troubling and something urgent must be done by government to fix the road network and provide a CHP compound in the community to provide basic health care.

“We are Ghanaians so we are telling the government to help us, we are suffering, even my wife is sick, we suffer a lot in this village, our road network is very deplorable, we have no electricity, no hospital, are we not Ghanaians ?”

US President Trump fires Attorney General for refusing to defend ban

The White House said Yates "betrayed the Department of Justice

US President Donald Trump on Monday evening fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates after she instructed the Department of Justice not to make legal arguments defending the executive order banning immigrants and refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries.

The White House in a statement accused Yates of having “betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States”.

The statement went on to described Yates, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama, as “weak on borders and very weak on illegal immigration”.

“It is time to get serious about protecting our country. Calling for tougher vetting for individuals travelling from seven dangerous places is not extreme. It is reasonable and necessary to protect our country,” the White House said in the statement.

It added that Trump replaced Yates with Dana Boente, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

The dramatic and unprecedented move came only hours after Yates sent a letter to DOJ lawyers saying she is not convinced the executive order signed by Trump on Friday is lawful.

“I am responsible for ensuring that the positions we take in court remain consistent with this institution’s solemn obligation to always seek justice and stand for what is right,” read Yates’ letter.

“At present, I am not convinced that the defense of the executive order is consistent with these responsibilities nor am I convinced that the executive order is lawful.”

“For as long as I am the acting attorney general, the Department of Justice will not present arguments in defense of the executive order, unless and until I become convinced that it is appropriate to do so,” Yates wrote.

Activists and campaigners opposed to Trump’s executive order took to social media to condemn the firing of Yates and to express their gratitude to her through the hash tag #ThankYouSally.

President Donald J. Trump summed it up rather well when he said, in reference to the Islamist terrorists and those that derive joy from committing genocide against Christians, that "they are sneaky dirty rats. They blow up people in a shopping centres and they blow up people in a church".
He went on to say "we are fighting sneaky rats right now that are sick and demented. And we are going to win.”

Finally he said, "the execution of Christians is no longer acceptable".

How right President Trump is. I thank God for his life every day. With him as leader of the free world, win we shall.

Yet sadly our Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who is undoubtedly a fine gentleman and who is a practising Pentecostal Christian, appears to be helpless and has done absolutely nothing to help and protect his own from the "sneaky dirty rats".

Clearly he has no power and he does not have the disposition or the political will and clout to take a stand against this great evil.

The best he could do was to issue a tepid statement telling Nigerian religious and political leaders not to allow religion to drive us apart.

He did not condemn the genocide that was being perpetrated by the Fulani militias and neither did he commiserate with the families of those that were butchered or express regret about the inability of the Federal Government to prevent the carnage.

The persecution and killings of Christians appears to just goes on and on even when we have a man that is a Christian as our Acting President.

Yet consider what happens when Christian leaders complain and speak out against the mass murder, the genocide and the insidious attempt to wipe away our faith from the face of the earth.

When our Christian clerics and political leaders rise up and call on Christians to defend themselves and their families where and when the state refuses or is unable to defend them against the practitioners of radical Islamic terror and the barbaric and cruel Fulani Janjaweed militias, our government starts storming their homes, locking them up and inviting them for questioning.

President Buhari and his government is arresting, questioning, detaining and harassing those that are being subjected to ethnic cleansing and genocide on a daily basis and they are turning a blind eye to those that are inciting and doing the killing!!!

I say shame on them. And let this be made abundantly clear: no-one is intimidated or scared of arrest or even death because eventually death must come to us all.

There are at least 100 million Christians in Nigeria today and Buhari cannot kill us all or lock us all up.

To the last man and woman we will continue to call on our people and our brothers and sisters in Christ to defend themselves, their homes and their loved ones wherever and whenever they are attacked by those that hate and seek to wipe out our faith where the government of the day refuses or fails in its constitutional duty to defend and protect us.

The Christians of Nigeria will no longer behave like lambs that are silently being led to the slaughter. We will no longer be killed without a fight.

Our God and our constitution requires us to protect our own and fight back when we are attacked and that is precisely what we will do.

The great American patriot and one of the principal players in the war of independence against British colonial rule, Thomas Jefferson said,

"When injustice becomes a law, resistance becomes a duty."

The leaders and the people of Nigeria need to learn from these profound words and take a cue from them.

Nobody likes violence and no-one wants a religious war. Peace and peaceful co-existence has always been our preference and has always been the Christian way.

However it must be clearly understood that if the radical Muslims in our midst insist on waging a bloody Jihad against us, we will not sit by idly and we will defend ourselves. Everyone must be clear on this. It would be a case of mutually assured destruction.

That is why the violence and the genocide that the Fulani militants are indulging in and perpetrating all over the north against Christians must stop.

That is why they must be arrested, prosecuted and hanged for their crimes against humanity.

His grace Prelate Sunday Ola Makinde of the Methodist Church got it right when he said,

"Suleiman should be law-abiding, let him go and face the DSS. Let us see if they will detain him and they will detain so many religious leaders in Abuja. Nigeria is greater than any religion and Nigeria is greater than anybody. The DSS should watch it. If they like, let me be the next victim. What is annoying them is that Suleiman converted from Islam to Christianity. Self-defence is permissible; they slapped our first cheek. They slapped the second cheek and we have no other cheek to turn for them. We may therefore resort to self-defence because this thing is becoming intolerable.”

The Prelate has spoken the mind of every right-thinking Christian in the country. Whatever happens to us as individuals does not matter. The only thing that matters is the defence of our people and our Church and the survival of our faith.

The Apostle Paul tells us in the Holy Bible that "to live is Christ and to die is gain". Consequently we do not fear what any man, any government or any cruel despot and tyrant can do to us.

Rather we count it all as joy. When we are absent in the body, we are present with the Lord. As they say, Christians don't die: they only change address.

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ was spread by the blood of the martyrs and the suffering and sacrifice of the saints.

The history of the Christian faith and the Church over the last 2000 years since the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is replete with examples of such suffering and sacrifice.

The matter is simple and clear: the more Christians you torment, persecute, lock up and kill, the more the glorious gospel of our Lord and master will flourish and grow. It is a deep and inexplicable mystery but it is very real.

You cannot kill Christianity. You cannot shake our faith. You cannot stop the spreading of the gospel. You cannot deny us our rights. You cannot overwhelm us. You cannot intimidate us and you cannot defeat the God that we serve.

And, like Pharaoh, some may ask "who is this God?" The answer is as follows:

He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Blood of the Sprinkling, the Holy One of Israel and the I Am, That I Am.

He is the Lily of the Valley, the Rose of Sharon, the Lamb of God, the Lord of Life, the El Shaddai, the Elohim, the Adonai and the Ancient of Days.

He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the God of Gideon, Jeptha and Samson. He is the God of Moses, Joshua and David and the God of Daniel, Shedrack, Mishak and Abendego.

He is the solid Rock on which we stand and the holy foundation on which Peter built the Church. He is the husband of the widow and the father of the fatherless. He is the defender of the weak, the healer of the sick and the provider for the poor.

He is the Comforter whose Holy Spirit hovers like a small white dove and who roars and burns like a conquering lion and an all-consuming fire.

He is the Seven-fold Spirit of the Heavenly Hosts and the source and power of the four great winds of the earth.

He is the Man of War, the Prince of Peace, the Creator of the Universe and the Lord of Hosts.

He is the God of the Armies of Israel, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end and the giver and taker of life.

He is the God of all flesh who holds the universe together by the power of His word. He is the slayer of Pharaoh and Herod: none can stand against Him and creation bows before Him.

That is who He is and not even one hundred million inciting words from the Sultan of Sokoto or anyone else can change that.

For the Christians of Nigeria, despite all that we see, we must always remember that He is with us and, in the end, He will make all things beautiful.

We must shed our fears and, if nothing else, we must always remember that "to live is Christ and to die is gain!!!"

May the Lord deliver His people from the rising tide of evil in our country and may He strike down those that delight in shedding the blood of His children and in crushing the bones of His servants. Shalom. (Concluded.)

Obama weighs in on President Trump for first time since inauguration

Former US president Barack Obama expressed his objections Monday to any faith-based discrimination, in an apparent dig at his successor Donald Trump's ban on nationals of seven Muslim-majority countries entering the country.

"With regard to comparisons to president Obama's foreign policy decisions, as we've heard before, the president fundamentally disagrees with the notion of discriminating against individuals because of their faith or religion," his spokesman Kevin Lewis said in a statement.

The statement -- Obama's first on politics since leaving the White House on January 20 -- came amid an uproar over Trump's order on Friday to tighten controls on immigrants from the seven countries and to temporarily halt all resettlement of refugees.

The former president is "heartened" by protests that have taken place across the country, Lewis said.

"Citizens exercising their constitutional right to assemble, organize and have their voices heard by their elected officials is exactly what we expect to see when American values are at stake," the statement added.

The statement came after the White House defended its policy, which saw more than 100 travelers detained at US airports and hundreds more blocked abroad, as essentially the same as previous rules implemented during Obama's presidency.

Former Obama national security spokesman Ben Rhodes said in a series of tweets that the tight vetting of Iraqi refugees in 2011 was not the same as an executive order (EO) like Trump's banning immigrants from Iraq.

"There was no ban on Iraqis in 2011. Anyone pushing that line is hiding behind a lie because they can't defend the EO," Rhodes said.

"More inter-agency vetting of Iraqi refugees in response to threat is standard process. EO banning people from several countries is not."

Former presidents traditionally do not weigh in publicly on a current president's statements or policies.

Before Obama left office, he said any effort to enforce systematic discrimination, erode voting rights, muzzle the press or round up young immigrants, would cause him to speak out.

"There's a difference between that normal functioning of politics and certain issues or certain moments where I think our core values may be at stake," he said at his final press conference in mid-January.

Founder of Pac-Man, Masaya Nakamura dies at 91

Masaya Nakamura founder of Namco,  the arcade trailblazer known as the Father of Pac-Man has died at the age 91. Masaya created the Japanese company behind the wildly popular dot-munching video game, in 1955. It began with two electric horses on the roof of a department store. The company became Bandai Namco after its merger with a gaming company in 2005.
Nakamura died on January 22, 2017 and the company announced his death on Monday, January 30, 2017.

A private wake and funeral were held for Nakamura, and a separate memorial is currently being organized.

The famous Pac-Man game sold more than 100,000 units in its first year in the United States and was named the world's most successful coin-operated video game by Guinness World Records in 1981.

Celestina Kidnapped Boss's son due to refusal to settle him after 5 years of service

23 year old suspected kidnapper, Celestine Chimaobi, has told the police in Lagos state that he kidnapped his boss's son, Emeka Chukwuyere, at Alafia in the Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos state recently because the father refused to settle him after he had served him for 5 years.

Celestine who was arrested alongside his friend at Apapa, told the police that after serving for five years, his boss took him to the village in Imo state and left him there without any settlement.

“I served my boss for five years at Mandilas (Lagos Island). After serving him, he took me to my village in Imo State and refused to settle me. So, I returned to Lagos and kidnapped his son, so that he would settle me.” He went on the kidnap mission with his friend, Emmanuel. “I told Emmanuel that the boy was my brother and that he would be staying with me for some days. He didn’t know I kidnapped the boy. He saw the boy when he came to the hotel and asked me who he was. Then, I told him he’s my brother and that he came to spend some time with me. The next time he came, he saw the boy and I told him the boy would leave on Monday. Then, on Tuesday, we met on the road and I begged him to escort me to the bank so that I can collect money from the Automated Teller Machine (ATM). That’s how we were arrested. I singlehandedly kidnapped the boy. I wanted his father to pay the ransom and I would use it as my settlement. I worked for him for five years. He’s from Okija in Anambra State and I have been selling clothes for him at Mandialas. In the agreement he had with my parents before he took me, he promised to settle me after four years. He started to count my apprenticeship from 2014. In 2016 when he was supposed to settle me, he opened another shop and asked me to be paying him N20,000 monthly. I could not cope because of the recession in the country, so I asked him to settle me as agreed but he refused, rather he sent me back to the village. I came back early January and I stayed in a hotel. It was then that the idea of how to kidnap his son came to me. Last Monday around 7:30am, I laid ambush around the house and picked the boy on his way to school. The boy emerged around 7:45am. He came to me when I called him and I took him away. I called my Oga on phone the next day to pay N5 million into my account if he wants to see his son again. I sent him my account number. I was on my way to collect my ATM card from the bank on Apapa Road when I was arrested. I never knew that police were on my trail.”

He will be charged to court soon.

'I rejected big money offers in China, but won't criticize those players who go there'-Jose Mourinho

Man U coach Jose Mourinho has revealed he snubbed big money at Chinese Super League clubs to remain at Manchester United, but he won't criticize players who decide to leave top European clubs to join Chinese clubs due to their high wages. Sell It Not

GENESIS 25:27-34

Key Verse:

"Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright" (Genesis 25:34).

As a rolling stone gathers no moss, so a careless and flippant person does not value precious things. This is why the Lord Jesus Christ says we should not cast our pearls before swine. Our passage for meditation has important lessons to teach us. Esau and Jacob were twins. Born by Isaac and Rebekah, they grew up in a home where the father loved the elder, Esau because of food while the mother had preference for Jacob. This act of parental discrimination created problems for the boys. Instead of loving each other, there was envy and rivalry among them. As a parent we must avoid this mistake by all means. Each child is a precious gift from God and should be appreciated, loved and cared for. No child should be preferred above the other. All the children are special and unique. Furthermore, the passage teaches us to value whatever God gives us. Esau being the firstborn was privileged to have the birthright – the right to have double portion of his father’s belongings. Unfortunately, Esau did not value this privilege. This is why the Scripture later described him as a "profane" person – a person who had no respect for sacred things. He treated and handled a precious thing (the birthright) with contempt. From Esau, we have some eternal lessons to learn. One, value who you are and all that God has given you. Value your soul and your relationship with God above every other thing in this world. Secondly, we should not be rash or irrational in making decisions. Look before you leap. Think deeply and think through before taking decisions. Where you are in doubt about the likely present and future consequences of a decision, ask for counsel from others who know better. Esau’s irrational decision of selling his birthright in order to satisfy his hunger cost him his place in the lineage of Abraham and even in the kingdom of God! What a loss! What you think or do at the spur of the moment or in the heat of passion could provoke great repercussions and damning consequences in the future. Learn from the unfortunate but avoidable example of Esau. Let the word of God be your guide and stay.

Trump clarifies travel ban policy amid uproar

United States President Donald Trump has officially commented on his latest executive order to temporary ban people from seven Muslim-majority countries amid mass protests across airports in the country.

Trump defended the order saying it was not intended to ban Muslims and accused the media of “falsely reporting it”.

The 90-day ban, imposed on Friday, affects travel to the United States by citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

“My policy is similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he banned visas for refugees from Iraq for six months. The seven countries named in the Executive Order are the same countries previously identified by the Obama administration as sources of terror,” Trump said in a statement released by his press secretary office.

“This is not about religion - this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order,” Trump added.

In the statement, Trump’s administration said that the US will again be issuing visas to all countries once they have reviewed and implemented more secure policies over the next 90 days.

“I have tremendous feeling for the people involved in this horrific humanitarian crisis in Syria. My first priority will always be to protect and serve our country, but as President I will find ways to help all those who are suffering,” he said.

Weeks after Apostle Johnson Suleman spoke strongly against the religious crisis in Southern Kaduna, another clergyman, Chris Okafor who is the senior pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries (MLMM), has come out to condemn the attacks, saying Christians are not powerless as they can fight as well. Okafor said this while preaching at his church recently.
He described Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai as a "short Herod"

"Over 800 people have been killed in Southern Kaduna and no arrest has been made. Not even El-Rufai, the Herod, can even release a statement condemning the act. The short Herod could not even make a statement. A man cried to me about two weeks ago. He was weeping in my office. He said he has no place to live. I asked why. He said where they were living in Kaduna was burnt. He said his seven children and pregant wife were killed. He said he ran for his dear life. As it is right now, he has become a widower, no children, no wife. Nobody owns this country. We all own the country and no one can try to claim superiority over the other. We all own the country. We are keeping quiet does not mean we are powerless. We can do something. We know something. We can fight. Enough is enough. Nobody owns this country. We all own this country. This country belongs to all of us. If the country does not belong to all of us again, let the country be divided and let this one go to the other side while the other go to the other side" he said

Canada to offer temporary residency permit to those travelers affected by Trump's ban

It has been revealed that Canada will offer temporary residency to those travellers currently stranded by the ban Trump placed on citizens of seven Muslim nations. This was made known by Canada's immigration minister, Ahmed Hussen.

Hussen, who was himself a Somali refugee, stated that no one is stranded at any of Canada's airport at the moment.


"Let me assure those who may be stranded in Canada that I will use my authority as minister to provide them with temporary residency if they need it, as we have done so in the past," Hussen said.

It was also earlier revealed by the U.S. State Department that dual Canadian citizens (i.e citizens from any of the barred countries who also have Canadian citizenship) were included in the ban. However, Daniel Jean, Canada's national security adviser, said that was not the case. He revealed that White House officials have assured them that citizens from the affected countries who are also Canadian citizens are not affected by the ban.

In related news, leaders of Canada's technology sector have signed an open letter urging their government to provide working visa to tech workers affected by the Trump ban. Jennifer Moss, co-founder of a Canadian tech company said such visas are to help tech workers blocked from returning to the US to now live and work in Canada while they apply for permanent residency if they want to.

"If you're not interested in keeping people that are extremely talented, intelligent, brilliant minds from all around the world, and turning them away at the borders, we're happy to take those people in our country," Moss said.

Quebec mosque shooting: What we know, what we don't know

There are more questions than answers in the hours following a terrorist attack on a Quebec City mosque late Sunday. The following is a list of what we know and don’t know as of 9:40 a.m. Monday.

What we know:

• Two men are in police custody after masked gunmen entered a mosque on Sainte-Foy St. and opened fire during evening prayers around 7:45 p.m. Sunday.
• One was arrested near the mosque and the other was captured on the bridge to Île-d’Orléans — about 20 kilometres east. Both were in police custody within an hour of the attack, according to police.
• The victims range in age from 39 to 60.
• Police say the suspects are in their late 20s, early 30s and do not have a criminal record.
• Six people are dead and five remain in critical condition. Of the five in critical condition, three are between life and death, according to a spokesperson for Centre Hospitalier Universite Laval.
• Thirty-nine others survived the attack, according to the Sûreté du Québec.
• The RCMP considers the killings a terrorist act — which they define as something triggered by “religious or political” motivations and meant to “spread fear among the larger public.” Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard said the shooting is considered a terrorist attack because, “It was an act of murder against a specific community.”
• There’s no evidence to suggest the suspects worked with a larger terrorist organization, according to an inspector with the Sûreté du Québec.
• Quebec City police worked with the RCMP, SQ and Montreal police to secure the area and gather intelligence after the attack. The province’s anti-terrorism unit is working on the investigation.
• The second suspect reportedly called 911, spoke about the shooting and offered to surrender to police near the Île-d’Orléans bridge.
• Police have increased security around mosques across the province.

What we don’t know:

• The identity of the alleged shooters. A representative from Université Laval would not confirm reports that the suspects are students at the school. A number of media outlets are reporting that one of the suspects is a Quebecer and another a Quebecer of Moroccan descent. But police haven’t confirmed this.

White House considering asking foreign visitors for intimate details like social media info and phone contacts

Following President Trump's executive order on immigration, Stephen Miller, the White House policy director revealed to officials of the State Department, Customs and Border Patrol, Department of Homeland Security and others that Trump is deeply committed to the executive order and has the support of the public.

On that note, Trump administration officials are discussing the possibility of asking foreign visitors to disclose all websites and social media sites they visit, and to share the contacts in their cell phones. Refusal to comply could lead to the visitor being denied entry.


The White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, was contacted by CNN for comments but he did not respond. Meanwhile, on Sunday, Trump defended the executive order he signed, saying in a statement that the ban was not about religion but about keeping America safe.

"We will continue to show compassion to those fleeing oppression, but we will do while protecting our own citizens and voters,"  He said.

"This is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting. This is not about religion -- this is about terror and keeping our country safe."

U.S. President Donald Trump says he will announce his Supreme Court nominee late Tuesday.

The nine-member court has had a vacant seat since the death last year of Justice Antonin Scalia, a conservative stalwart on the court for 30 years.
Former President Barack Obama had nominated appellate court Judge Merrick Garland to fill the seat. But the Republican-controlled Senate refused to consider Garland's nomination, saying it wanted the next president to make the nomination.
Trump has been considering several conservative judges for the appointment.
Media reports say the front-runners include federal judges Neil Gorsuch, Thomas Hardiman, and William Pryor.

Marriage scam: Nigerian man arrested in India for duping Australian national out of $95,000 on dating site

Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a 31-year-old Nigerian national Mohammed Hassani(31) and his Hyderabadi associate, Mohsin Agha (29) for swindling a 60-year-old Australian citizen, Gregory David Sim out of $95,000 with the help of a Nigerian woman.

The Nigerian woman, who developed friendship through a dating site with Gregory David Sim and two other Nigerians involved in the case were still at large. 

"The gang lures men with marriage alliance through dating websites and tricking them into parting with money is their modus operandi" CID,Cyber Crime, Additional SP. U. Rammohan said.

The Australian divorcee, whose hobby is browsing dating sites, came in contact with the Nigerian woman. She introduced herself as Sarah Haimish a year ago and started chatting with him regularly. Six months of chatting and mails later, they decided to get married.

David, a retired sewerage mechanic, told her that his mother was from Australia and father from Turkey and that he had divorced his wife 20 years ago. In response, she told David that she was also a divorcee and currently engaged in supplying fabrics and gems in India.

However, she was stuck here since she had to ‘get dues worth $2.1 million from the government’, for which she had to ‘pay’ $210,000 as tax settlement. During a phone conversation with David, she used to give her phone to Moshin Agha introducing him as her manager who would look after transactions.
When she told him that she could return to Australia if she settles tax, David transferred $95,000 into an Axis Bank account maintained by Agha. Prior to this, he also transferred money in small installments, a CID official said.
"It’s a well-planned crime executed since January 2016. She took necessary precautionary measures to avoid David from suspecting her. After he started trusting her, the gang began seeking money from him,” the official said.

After the amount was transferred into Agha’s account, she asked David to meet her in Hyderabad. Accordingly, he flew to Hyderabad to meet her but he could not find her. She told him she had been to Dubai on some business and the Australian flew to Dubai as well but couldn't contact her.

From Dubai, the Australian went back to Adelaide and returned to Hyderabad where lodged a complaint with the CID. Hunt was on to catch the remaining two Nigerians men and 'Sarah Haimish
